1940s Seikosha Imperial Japanese Army Military Soldier's Watch Double Case WWII
Description
This is an authentic Seikosha (Seiko) Imperial Japanese Army military watch from the 1940s.
The watch is currently running well.
Original Seikosha military watches of this type are extremely difficult to find today, as they are rarely released from long-term collections.
Developed by Seikosha in 1939 (Showa 14), this military watch features a distinctive double-case construction. A smaller watch case is housed inside a heavy plated outer case, providing improved protection against dust, moisture, and impact.
Three major variations of this model are believed to have existed, including versions for the Imperial Japanese Army, the Imperial Japanese Navy, and a post-war model used by the National Police Reserve. This example is the Imperial Japanese Army version.
According to collector references, these watches were sold through military canteens and were purchased by enlisted soldiers, NCOs, and career military personnel for field use. Many ordinary servicemen instead used commercially modified Seikosha watches fitted with aftermarket double cases, making genuine factory-produced Seikosha examples considerably rarer.
Examples retaining much of their original plating, such as this one, have become increasingly scarce.
Movement
- Seikosha Morris Type 10
- 7 jewels
- Hand-winding mechanical movement
The movement was professionally overhauled approximately two years ago. Since then, it has only been wound and run a few times each year and has not been used as a daily wearer.
At present, the movement winds smoothly and runs well. The daily accuracy is approximately 1–2 minutes per day, which is considered very good for a Japanese military watch of this age and type.
Please note that this is an approximately 80-year-old vintage mechanical watch with a 7-jewel movement. Although it is currently operating, future performance cannot be guaranteed, and it is being sold as-is.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
