For your consideration is an exceptionally rare and historically important original heraldic artist's proof for the official insignia of the Canadian Forces Training System, prepared for review at National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa, and dated June 1976. Preserved from the official approval process of the Canadian Armed Forces and never intended for public distribution, this exceptional working proof bears the holograph approval notation "Approved, Elizabeth R.", written by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her capacity as Queen of Canada, together with the endorsement of Major N. A. Buckingham, Director of Ceremonial. As the original artwork submitted through official governmental channels, it documents the constitutional process by which the insignia of the organization responsible for the education and professional development of generations of Canadian servicemen and women received sovereign authorization. Measuring approximately 8.5 11.5 inches, the proof survives in very good original condition.

Executed in richly rendered full colour, the design is surmounted by the Royal Crown and enclosed within a circular wreath. At its centre is a golden oil lamp with a burning flame upon a black field, the traditional symbol of knowledge, learning, discipline, and professional instruction. Beneath appears the Latin motto EXERCENDO AD LUMEN ("Through Training to Enlightenment" or "By Instruction Toward Knowledge"), reflecting the organization's central role in military education. Established following the 1968 unification of the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, and Royal Canadian Air Force, the Canadian Forces Training System became the cornerstone of leadership development, technical instruction, doctrine, and professional military education across the unified Canadian Armed Forces during the Cold War.

Far more than an attractive work of heraldic art, the present proof is an original government working document. The endorsement of Major Buckingham records its review by the Directorate of Ceremonial, while Queen Elizabeth II's manuscript approval preserves the Sovereign's direct constitutional role in authorizing an official insignia of the Canadian Armed Forces. Unlike presentation photographs, Christmas cards, or commemorative autographs, the notation "Approved, Elizabeth R." records an official act of state. Original file punch holes along the left margin further attest to its administrative use within National Defence Headquarters, providing tangible evidence of its retention in official working files rather than preparation as a presentation piece.

Original artist's proofs bearing both the endorsement of the Director of Ceremonial and the holograph approval of Queen Elizabeth II survive in exceptionally small numbers and are seldom encountered outside institutional collections. Combining original heraldic artwork, royal autograph, official governmental review, and direct association with the evolution of Canada's unified armed forces, this museum-quality artifact occupies a unique intersection of Canadian military history, constitutional monarchy, heraldic art, and governmental administration. It stands among the finest surviving documentary witnesses to the formal process through which the Canadian Crown authorized the visual identity of the modern Canadian Armed Forces.
