The shield is quarterly of England (first and fourth, three lions passant guardant), Scotland (second, lion rampant), and Ireland (third, harp), over all an inescutcheon bearing the arms of Hanover: quarterly Brunswick (two lions passant guardant), Lneburg (lion rampant amid hearts), and Westphalia (white horse courant), with the small escutcheon of the Crown of Charlemagne.
