The Montblanc Meisterstück 149 UNICEF Tom Sachs Set is a rare, limited edition of 4810 pieces released in 2004. This special edition was launched to support Montblanc's global "Sign up for the right to write" literacy campaign in partnership with UNICEF. While other designers in the series leaned into traditional luxury, the renowned American contemporary artist Tom Sachs approached this exclusive collaboration through the lens of his famous raw, industrial, and DIY aesthetic.The Designer: Tom SachsTom Sachs is a celebrated New York-based sculptor and artist globally known for his philosophy of bricolage. He famously replicates iconographic modern objects using everyday, non-traditional materials like plywood, foam core, and duct tape, leaving the marks of the making process intentionally visible. For this high-end collaboration, he turned Montblanc’s traditional notions of luxury upside down.The Foam Board Box: Rejecting traditional leather, lacquer, or velvet, Sachs designed a highly unconventional presentation case made of raw white foam core board (kapaline).
