General Samuel Dickerson Rockenbach [1869 1952] was an officer of the United States Army who led the Tank Corps of the A.E.F during World War I and is considered the ''father of the U.S. armored weapon''. Rockenbach began his military career in 1889 and served in the Spanish American War with the 10th Cavalry ''Buffalo Soldiers'' in Cuba and Puerto Rico and served in the Philippines from 1905 to 1910. General Pershing was impressed with Rockenbach achievements and chose him for his staff when the U.S entered World War I and appointed him as a commander in the AEF. In December 1917 he was appointed commander of the new Tank Corps of the AEF and along with George Patton together they laid the organizational and tactical foundation of the Tank Corps and arranged the formation and training for the newly formed armored unit. General Rockenback personal led the operation of armored units consisting of Patton's 1st Tank Brigade at the battles of St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. Listed for sale is the war dated autograph of General Samuel Dickerson Rockenbach signed on a page. The autograph is signed ''S.D Rockenbach'' in black fountain pen above his typed rank. The page is war dated [stamped July 13, 1917 Headquarters], measures 6.00 x 1.25 inches [was removed from a letter] andis in fine condition.The autograph is authentic, rare and difficult to obtain and is a desirable example of this prominent United States Army general.
