This item is a wonderful, original letter dated 1777, Litchfield, Connecticut, where Captain Eli Catlin has signed a receipt of payment for blankets for two soldiers in his company...signed at lower right by Catlin, 2x5, in overall good condition.

Eli Catlin (1734-1820)REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERAN: Enlisted at age 41; served at the Siege of Boston (at Roxbury), 1st Lieutenant, 7th Connecticut Militia, 6th Jul to 31st December 1775. Reenlisted 1st Jan. to 31st Dec. 1776, in the Continental Army.

Again reenlisted as Captain, 5th Connecticut Line Continental Army on 1st Jan. 1777 to serve in the New Jersey and Philadelphia campaigns; winter-camped with Col. Bradley\'s Regiment at Valley Forge, PA.; Resigned 25th May 1778, age 44, before the Spring campaign.

Removed to Luzerne Pennsylvania with his son Putnam in 1786. Died at Hop Bottom, Susquehanna Pennsylvania 1820.
