This item is a neat $40Confederate States of America certificatefrom an 1863 $1,000 bond.It says the CSA will pay FORTY DOLLARS to bearer for six months interest. The bond paid 8% interest. Note the hand writtensignature.Guaranteed genuine.

The coupon was used to claim the interest on a bond. The coupon was typically paid semiannually.
For example, a $100 bond with a coupon of 7% will pay $7.00 a year.
