Great painting that I have had hanging in my house for over 35 years--bought it at a Dwayne Merrill sale in 1981 or thereabouts(Burlington, Vermont area provenance)...
TDhe painting has great color and detail and what appears to be the mountain range on the other side of Lake Champlain which in t his case would be the Adirondak range facing West from the Ve rmont Green Mountains--hence the wonderful sun set seen in the painting.
I have been unable to find a signature from the artist but then Ihave not taken it out of the frame that it came in all those years ago..so maybe--but I would not count on it...The painting has a decidedly primitive look to it--though the detail is superb as is thecolor.
The frame is in great shape and has some gilt to it though quite dirty I would imagine. Sizewise the painting framed is 18.5x 23 inches; unframed it is 16x 20 inches...
Thatis a about all I know if the painting but if you have other questions do not hesitate to ask them--maybe I might have the answers? It certainly is a nice painting...signed or not signed makes little difference on these early works..
