Very old and worn antique Collins \"California\" pattern double bitted axe. This one has the handle broken off at about 24\" and it\'s around 28\" overall. Weighs close to 4 lbs. Blade is 9 3/4\" across, 4.75\" wide bits. This one is very old, as I found it many years ago where an abandoned farm stood. The shiny stuff on blade is clear nail polish where some kids painted on it years ago, easily removed, but it does highlight the \"COLLINS\" stamping quite well! I can see no other markings or labels, as they would have worn away years ago. An acquaintance that knows about axes and other such antiques informed me it was a \"California\" pattern and quite rare. Still very useable once a new handle is fitted and the blades sharpened. The rust was stopped when I oiled it years ago, and now it\'s a dark brown color, like most steel antiques. The handle is hickory and surprisingly still quite strong as I used it to split some wood years ago playing around with it when I was a teenager. I tried to remove the handle at one point but as it was still fairly tightly attached, gave up. I left it on now since it\'s a part of it\'s history.
