Antique c18 Napoleonic -Prisoner -of War Pierced Carved Needle/Bodkin Case
The craftsmanship is typical of Napoleonic prisoner of war work dating to circa 1830.
It was common practice for prisoners to pass their time by crafting everyday objects from wood and bone which
they were allowed to sell at the gates of the prison to the general public. This delicate needle or bodkin case
has incredibly detailed pierced work which appears to be completely hand carved when viewed through a magnifying glass.
Measures:These arefrom my collection of over 40 years and fresh to the market.
