CIVIL WAR LETTER 1863 HARPER\'S FERRY DUMFRIES VA REBEL RAIDS UNION OCCUPATION:
$128.51
HAND WRITTEN in pencil soldier to soldier, one sheet of paper folded in half, 3 sides filled. An address of sorts is on the blank side, which appears to be the sender\'s Regiment. Dated Jan.20th 1863, Dumfries, Va. This was a Union Occupied small town with a strategic location for the Union forces, only a short distance from the Union capitol in D.C. and a port city. The letter contents are interesting and detailed. As common form for letters of this era, he notes a letter received and is sorry for the delay in writing. He mentions Harper\'s Ferry and a hard march to Dumfries, a wound to his face, Rebels raiding Dumfries on Dec. 27th, a Corporal Bull of their Co being killed. Rebels did not get through, and they have fortified more to keep them out. Next is a long paragraph about trying to serve God and closes with well wishes.signed,Your friend,C.L.KING
