I LIVE IN New Zealand Awesome Maori Adze Tokipoutangata.This wonderful hand carved example of the Toki Pou Tangata or Maori Adze is carved from New Zealand native wood MATAI. The detail on the axe head features traditional Maori carvings and paua shell eyes. The blade is made from New Zealand West Coast Greenstone and is adorned with natural binding and feathers.
The greenstone is called Kawakawa Pounamu rich green with dark flecks is named after the common Kawakawa native tree .Its colour is likened to the Leaves of the tree .Garlands of Kawakawa leaves were sometimes worn by grieving woman at funerals.

Size: The Toki Poutangata measures 16 inches x 5 1/2 inches x 1 5/8 inches or 405mm x 140mm x 40mm. The greenstone or Jade toki measures 100mm x 47mm x 6mm

This Toki Poutangata carving was hand carved in Rotorua, New Zealand. This high quality carving is shaped and carved using New Zealand native Matai. Stand is made from NZ Native Totara.

However in wartimes the adze or toki are known to have been used by Maori warriors.
