From Danbury Mint and artist Susie Morton RARE horse plate \"Tom Fool\". 8\" in diameter, edged in gold, numbered B6049, No COA Plate is from the \"Legendary Thoroughbred\" collection, kind of a sister to Susie Mortons \"Champion Thoroughbreds\" collection, only much much harder to find!!!! Like new codition!
Tom Fool:March 31, 1949 - August 20, 1976, Tom Fool was an American Racehorse, winner of Horse of the Year (1953) also being voted the Champion Older Horse and the Champion Sprint Horse. For Horse of the year he received 34 of 37 votes! Inducted into Racing Hall of Fame in 1960. As a 2 yr old Tom Fool won 5 of his 7 starts with 2 second place finishes, earning him Champion 2 yr old.
At his first race as a 3 yr old at the Wood Memorial (where he finished 2nd) his vet found he had been running with a very high fever. As such his hopes for a Triple Crown, were gone. He was sidelined for much of his 3 yr old career but did still manage to win most of his races. As a healthy 4 yr old Tom Fool won all 10 of the races he was entered in, including winning the Pemlico by an impressive 8 lengths. I really would have wished he was healthy as a three year old and had his chance to run for the Crown, but for all of you who just watched American Pharoah win, in a small way you did, as Tom Fools bloodline still appears in our latest Triple Crown winner who is a sixth and seventh generation of the great \"Tom Fool\"
