JOHNNY\'S MACHINES, a Little Golden Book by Helen Palmer, with illustrations by Cornelius DeWitt. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1949 \"A\" edition (The \"A\" is at the bottom of the last page). Unpaginated. There are 42 pages.
STORY: In this engaging story, Johnny\'s grandfather introduces him to all sorts of machines in the house and outdoors on the farm, and Johnny tries out most of them. All are illustrated in full color or in black and orange shaded drawings.
CONDITION: GOOD COLLECTIBLE CONDITION - Paper over hardboard cover shows light rubbing of color at edges and slight bumping of corners. Yellow color on front shows slight soil from rubbing. Light vertical crease on cover is visible only in light, and doesn\'t go through to the back. No significant fading. THIS BOOK FEATURES THE OLD NON-GILT LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK SPINE, which was in use until the early 1950s. It has a tiny closed chip at both top and bottom. Inside back cover at top of spine has a chip about 1/8\" long. Slight bumps at top and bottom.
INSIDE PAGES: CLEAN AND BRIGHT, with little age darkening and only an occasional light age dot here and there. NO MARKS, SOIL OR WRITING, minimal curling to corners. BINDING IS TIGHT, and pages lift up from the spine when book is opened. Clean, light fingertip creases throughout, from little hands turning the pages. The last page has an open triangular chip at the bottom, about 1/8\" in size.
