~ 1980 New Orleans Mardi Gras Poster. March 3, 1981

~ Artist: Daniel Ira Poole

~ Provenance: I purchased this poster in the French Quarter in March of 1981. I was there for my first Mardi Gras. It was a memorable event indeed! I had the poster mounted and framed by a high-end frame shop. Years later I removed the poster from the frame. The poster has remained unframed and in storage every since. As I am now retired and downsizing my treasures, its time to “re-home” this special piece. Many folks believe the Court Jester has a remarkable resemblance to Johnny Carson!

~ Condition: As written above. Poster has been out of frame for years. It has many scratches. Please review pictures closely and ask for more photos if required. As seen in the picture, some where in time , it sustained some minor water damage to the back mounting board. Water mark on back only. Did not effect poster front. It was mounted on proper poster board thus not to be rolled. It will be shipped flat.

~ Printer/Distributor: Gallery Prints INC. 611 Dumaine Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70116 U.S.A.

~ Size: 36” x 25”

More about the artist: Dan Ira Poole:

“Some people are bankers, some teachers; I am an artist,” Dan Poole states simply. Dan Poole is from Unadilla, Georgia. He escaped into art as a child because of a childhood illness that limited his activity. He attended Valdosta State College, the Atlanta School of Art and Georgia State University, staying at each school long enough to take as many art courses as he could.

Poole uses vibrant colors to make his paintings of flowers fresh and inviting. In contrast, his beach scenes can be tranquil and beckoning and his portraits are stunning. Poole doesn’t prettify; his portraiture is bold. Another subject Poole revels in is what he calls “the good life”—the dreamed-about childhood utopia, filled with dolls and dogs and cats and toys. And there are the ethereal, theatrical interpretations of figures reclining dreamily, or faces peering through misty veils.
