Description: An exceptional Stoneware Master Inkwell with profuse Cobalt decoration, American or Continental, 19thC. A rare, desirable form that will feature prominently in any collection. Large, cylindrical form with raised central well and four equally spaced circular pen-rest openings. Extensive cobalt covers the entire body and features a trailing floral motif; each pen opening forming the center of a Daisy-like Blossom. This Inkwell was likely made as a presentation piece.

Condition: Expected wear throughout, including shallow chips and rubs, as shown; otherwise Very Good with bold color. There is in-the-making clay separation around half of the center well perimeter, where it meets the body (see close-up, photos #8 & #9). Inherent glaze, surface and firing imperfections noted for descriptive accuracy. There are some clay fragments inside; probably the round pieces that were cut for the openings. Displays brilliantly; highly-appropriate for any collection. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Impressive size and decoration. Measures 5-3/4\"W x 2-1/4\"H overall. Center well rim opening is 7/8\". The four pen rest openings are approximately 3/8\" diameter. Weighs 1lb. 6oz.
