St. Apostle Simon the Zealot is also called Canaanite (Matt. 10: 4; Mark 3:18), because the city came from Cana in Galilee. The wedding feast of Simon was among the invited Jesus Christ, His Most Pure Mother and his disciples. Here Savior made his first miracle by turning water into 5 jars of wine (John 2: 1-11).

Simon probably came from a very poor family, and even such a family celebration - his wedding - there was not enough wine for guests. Simon called the Zealot (Luke 6:15; Acts. April 1:13), which means jealous, because he was an ardent supporter and zealous of the Law of the Lord.

As obtained with the other Apostles the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, he traveled to the sermon of Christ Egypt, Ethiopia, Libya, Mauritania, and even the distant lands of the Roman Empire - Britain, where - according to church tradition - brutal torture he accepted martyrdom, he was crucified.
