Up for sale is a quality two volume set titled \"Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant\".Published by Charles L. Webster, 1885-1886. First edition. Two volumes.
This set has been REBOUND in black simulated leather with gilt lettering
on the covers and spines of the two volumes. New end papers have been put
in, but the rest of both volumes are the ORIGINAL first edition of this classic
set. All original content is present.
Set includes two frontispiece engraved portraits, illustrations and numerous maps. Volume I also has a Grant\'s dedication of the book to the American soldier and sailor, presented in a reproduction of Grant\'s handwriting. Considered a classic of American literature and, by some, thegreatest book ever written by a former U.S. President, this work provides a first person narrative of the Civil War. Encouraged by Mark Twain, Grant wrote the book while dying of throat cancer. The book was a bestseller and helped Grant\'s wife pay off the family\'s debts.Each book is 6 1/4\" by 9 1/2\" in size. A total of 1231 pages between the
two books.These two books are in excellent/fine condition.
Previous owner\'s blind stamp is on the half title page and on frontispiece
plate of General Grant in Volume I. Also previous owner\'s blind stamp is
on half title page of Volume II. No other markings in these two books.
Also no foxing. The binding in each volume is firm and tight.
This is a very clean and attractive set, beautifully rebound in simulated
