In this sale is: \"RARE\" 1861 Civil War MUSTER ROLL bound book of 350+ pages Gettysburg? 23 PA? This is a rare book for sure from the Civil War. I have had 100s of Muster Rolls over the years and listed quite a few of them here but have never seen an original book of them. Muster Rolls have always been sought after due to the soldier & battle content they can have besides the regiments they pertain to. This book is 1861 too. The book has upwards to pages in the 390\'s starting at #1 , front & back. Pages 187-200 are blank and then pages 73-109 were cut out. The pages that were cut out were not cut out 100% so there are remnants of those pages so words can be seen front & back and makes it more interesting. There is a date of 1861 in the writing there in one of the partials sentences, the word \"FORT\", the phrase \"FISH MA\" whatever that means among a few others words to pretty much sum up that it was probably important war stuff. It is kind of odd that these pages were almost in the middle of the book and whoever wrote the letters in there didn\'t use the front. To me I think it was something secret or very important and he wanted to hide what was being written. We will never know but feel strongly about that possibility. The book itself has binding that is falling apart. The covers are still barely attached but the pages inside except for some towards the last 10 pages are all pretty much bound still. Someone could technically cut the cord and then have loose pages to do whatever they wanted to with too. Where some people have copied a full muster roll on a blueprint machine to just have a copy they could now just rewrite the muster roll on these pages. The book had a spine at one point which is about all broken off the leather except for the one piece that had the title on it which says it all 1861 Muster Rolls etc. It looks like someone had tried to glue that piece on years ago since the backside of that piece has glue residue. When this will be shipped that piece will ship separate due to its delicateness and the fact it makes the book that much more valuable. When i went thru this page by page where the partial letters were removed, there was 1 loose piece that on the other side says \"Gettysburg\" and then has 23 PA F? The book is about 23\" x 18\" or so in size. The front pages are more stained & dirty but once you get more into it they are cleaner but still a light stain but condition wise of the paper is very good + i\'d say overall of those pages. There are variations to the pages too so if you look at the pictures you will see above the different pages that are in here. With 49 pages missing and it going up to the 390s, that would mean there are 340+ pages plus a few blank ones in front of everything but no names or info. I acquired this a while ago and today was the first time i went thru it page by page. I think it is a pretty historical find. Please take some time to read the partial pages too. ?\'s please ask.
