I found this original vintage poster recently at the estate sale of a local artist /sax player. It is a poster advertising the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival of 1972, held on April 20-30th of that year.
1972 was the first year the Jazz Fest was held at the Fair Grounds. There were concerts there and \"after dark jam sessions\" on the President, at the Auditorium and in the International Room of what was then the Fairmont-Roosevelt hotel. The lineup for that year included Thelonius Monk , B.B. King , Nina Simone ,Art Blakey, Jimmy Smith, The Olympia Brass Band, and The Original Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra.
Posters from these early years of the festival are exceedingly scarce.
This poster is being offered in \"as found\' or \"as is\" condition ,all sales final. It does have some cosmetic issues . There are tack holes in the corners, discoloration from a bit of tape at top, and there is an circular impression in the center that has caused some minimal creasing. these few flaws are regrettable but will be unnoticeable once properly framed and mounted.
