Superb Revolutionary War period British 20th of foot officers button . Similar to Troiani , \"Insignia of Independence \" B20.g page 67. 22mm in diameter. Repousse face with which looks like it had a pewter filled back with an iron shank. I\'ve seen this unusual arrangement before and IMO it dates in the 1785-90 period. Could be earlier but I haven\'t seen evidence of it. The picture shows the condition better then I could describe it. 20th Served in the Burgoyne Expedition in 1777 and detachments served in Canada through the rest of the war followed by another term 1789-92.
