Item Description:This is an original Japanese army officers sword in Shin Gunto mountings fromWorld War 2. The blade is in VeryGood condition and the fittings are in Excellent condition. It is a healthy sword and has a bladelength of 26.75 inches (68cm). The hada is a well-implemented itame that mixes with an irregular masame. The hamon is a Koto style midare hamon that is present the lengthof the blade ending in a midareboshi. There is a deep nioi guchi andactivities like sunagashi in and aroundthe hamon. The blade is mumei, or unsigned, but based on the workmanshipin the hada and hamon, the sword looks to be Gendaito, forged using traditional materials and techniques.

The mountings are Type 98 ShinGunto and in Excellentcondition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There islittle to no fraying. The tsuba is classic WW2 with four accompanying metalseppa. The saya (scabbard) is wood with a leather weathering cover on it. Theleather is supple and well-aged, retaining roughly 90-95% original finish. The blade is in Very Good condition. There are a couple very small micronicks, some small spots of rust, and some scratches along the blades length. Thereare no major flaws like hagire. I think this sword would be a superb additionfor a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.
