Beautiful Sterling Plate “The Rattlesnake ”

- A stunning collector plate, made of solid sterling silver.
- First in Remington’s American West Series of Collector’s Plates from Geo. Washington Mint, made in 1972.
- The Certification certifies that the plate is made of 22 ounces of sterling silver. The actual measured weight is 701 grams, or 22.5 troy ounces.
- 10 inches in diameter.
- The plate is in Excellent MINT condition. There is no any sign of tarnishing. With reasonable care, the plate will retain its original beauty indefinitely. The plate has been treated by the mint with an invisible space chemical to prevent tarnishing. Do not use silver polish or any other liquid. To remove fingerprint, buff gently with a soft cloth.
- The series number of this plate is 8952. It is one of a total edition of 10,000.
- It comes with original box, Remington literature holder, information pamphlet, cloth container with the number 8952 on it, and the Certification & Provenancesigned by John Phillips Gooding, President of Geo. Washington Mint, Inc.
- Frederic Remington considered himself a “pictorial historian”, a rather modest appraisal for a man now recognized as one of America’s finest sculptors and painters. None of his own sculpture pleased Remington more than the final version of “The Rattlesnake”. Sometimes called “Snake in the Path”, the work was originally created as a somewhat smaller sculpture, a masterpiece to everyone but Remington. Only Remington’s eyes could see the minute imperfections in form which were eliminated in the second model. The detail, in both horse and rider, is remarkable. The sense of motion, undeniable.
