Vintage M-1904 US Military Cavalry Artillery McClellan Saddle WWI Inspected:

WWI Military saddle, artillery model, with original stirrups and stirrup leathers.
The saddle has a 12 inch seat, and is in good condition for its age, with all seams solid, showing no splits, which is somewhat hard to find. There are some light surface cracks on the seat, which I have tried to show in the pictures above. All of the hardware is present except for one ring and staple on the front.
The upper quarter straps are pretty good, although there are some surface cracks seen. The lower straps are for display only, they are quite worn, and one is broken, as shown above. The ends of the lower quarter straps are also somewhat shortened, but are long enough for display purposes.
The original stirrup leathers also show wear, but are complete in length, and display well. The old stirrups are original issue, but do have a rusty surface, and the US stamp at the base is no longer legible. They might clean up well enough to reveal the maker.
The safes are quite good and are clearly stamped with the inspectors initials. The same initials appear on one quarter strap, and very faintly, the E can be seen on one stirrup leather. The base of the saddle has the usual dings and scuffs, but is solid and intact. All stitching is very solid, and with the addition of new straps as outlined above, this saddle could be ridden in again.
