I have collected Persian Tribal Rugs for quite a number of years and am fortunate enough to have visited Iran before the revolution in 1979. I am not an expert or a dealer, but simply a collector down-sizing. I have had this rug fora number of years: it is not new and Iknow it has some age (I have had it more than 30 years).It is wool and measures 57\" X 74\" which isquite largefor a rug of this type.For the most part, I have always focused on LION RUGS when collecting.THIS rug is really quite unique: actually ALL hand-made rugs are unique, but this one is special. It is both signed and dated: the year is 1377 which translates to 1957. It is in virtually perfect condition (I have been told in Iran that NO rug is perfect; only God can create perfection!) However, this rug is a real beauty. It is larger than most and shows this long-legged rather skinny, ORANGE, male Lion with a face that only a mother could love! He is flanked on either end by 2 grazing deer and surrounded by multiple intricate borders...plus a ring of tribal symbols in the field. What this guy lacks in physical attractiveness, he makes up for inoverall beauty. His orange colorshows 3 separate shades leading from his head to his body. The edges are bound withred and orange alternatingside-cords. This rug, although vintage, looks to have never been used on the floor (certainly not as long as I have had it) and shows no wear...although, as mentioned, it certainly does have some age to it. Thisrug is an eye-catcher and conversation piece and certainly will be a most impressive, strikingimage wherever and however it is displayed.The last2 pictures are of the reverse.
