Offered for sale is this \'Hard To Find\' \'WILBUR-SUCHARD\' factory/industrial chocolate mold.
We are not sure how old it is but the Wilbur Chocolate Company stopped using the \'Suchard\'
name in 1958....Having used the name \'Wilbur-Suchard\' since 1928. They moved from
Philadelphia to Lititz, Pennsylvania in 1930.
Sadly, the old, stately, brick factory building was closed last year (2016)...Replaced by new and
more efficient facilities just outside of town. There is now a museum/candy outlet presently
located across the street from that old factory building.
We have seen these old tin molds come up for sale at local sales but only on rare occasions.
Since we live in the Lititz, PA. area we were hoping we would be able to find some of these when
the chocolate factory closed...But none were offered when the large factory processing equipment was sold...So they remain as scarce as ever...A piece of history...A true relic from a by-gone era.
Unbelievably we found this one last Saturday at a local yard sale...?? It is made of heavy tin and measures 19 inches X 11 1/2 inches X 2 1/2 inches deep. It does have lots of dings and dents from
many, many, years of use. Our opinion is that it is a \'Handsome\' collectible...We have always said that \"We like our old antiques to \'LOOK\' like old antiques.\" (Check our photos)
The Wilbur Chocolate Company\'s signature product is \'Wilbur \'BUDS\' which were manufactured
quite some time before Hershey Kisses. It is rumored that Milton Hershey based his \'Kisses\' on the \'Wilbur Bud.\'
