RARE Official 1930 White House Christmas Card/Gift - President Herbert Hoover :

A rather unique find here in Washington, D.C. from an old estate many years ago from one of President Hoover\'s personal Secretaries during his White House years (1929-1932) . and never seen on or elsewhere.

Item is a rather large piece of Wood from the original Roof of the White House that was replaced in 1927 at the end of the Coolidge Presidency. Wood was salvaged to be used in 1930 by incoming President Herbert Hoover to give as gifts to a few very close White House associates.

There is a special section on the 1930 Hoover Christmas gift and Christmas card and Official gift Christmas poem in the Seeley White House / Presidential Christmas card/gift reference book (see pages 24 and 25 ) .

This particular large block of pinewood was never finished into a product but presented in its natural state to be mounted on a board for display. Its one of the largest most complete pieces of \"original\" White House wood (from the original White House roof) I have ever recalled seeing offered for sale (it measures approx 9 1/2\" x 3 1/2\" x 1 3/4\" ) and very aged from the period. It is accompanied by the original 1930 White House Christmas card with the raised Gold Embossed Presidential Seal from The President and Mrs. Hoover , along with a special Christmas poem written by Mrs. Hoover for 1930with the raised Gold Embossed Presidential Sealas well. Both items are in very good shape and presented as well with the original Raised Gold Presidential Seal Christmas White House enclosure envelope.

The Seeley reference book mentions that some of the salvaged wood was later carved into some 30 odd end gifts while from what I see, many blocks of the salvaged wood went unfinished and presented with the Official 1930 White House Christmas card and additional Christmas poem praising the service of this old piece of Pinewood and how it served the White House well for well over a hundred years !

The 1930 Official Hoover Christmas card is so very elusive (so much so that its virtually non-existent).. in fact in my 16 years of selling on not one example has ever been offered for sale at any price. Further never have I seen the original 1930 White House Christmas card along with the original 1930 White House Christmas poem , original 1930 White House Christmas enclosure envelope and one of the \"actual\" original blocks of Pinewood from the original White House roof offered for sale as \"one package\" .. It really is a superb find and I am pretty confident its missing from even the most advanced Presidential Christmas card/gift collections.. The example referenced in the Seeley guide is from information presented to the authors by the Hoover Presidential library. This is the only such example I have handled / owned of what I consider the rarest of Presidential Christmas cards or gifts.

I feel its safe to say that less than 100-150 \"Official 1930 White House Christmas cards\" were produced at Christmastime 1930 (with most discarded over time).. and the fact that not one single example has even surfaced on , its likely only 20-30 true examples even exist today in any condition (excluding the original enclosure Envelope and definately not with the original 1930 White House issued Christmas poem...

Presidential White House Christmas cards and gifts as well as Presidential autographs are one of my specialties here in Washington, D.C. for over 30+ years. I think you will be pleased. A great item for the advanced Presidential Christmas card collector and a group you will not likely find again for another 20-30 yrs.. .

An interesting note.. is that this original block of White House wood is so large.. that a dealer suggested I should cut up this block into 500 small sections and sell at $100 each with a copy of the original Christmas Card and Poem from the Hoovers ... I felt that would be wrong... but the wood is historic alone and does represent a rather large piece of the actual White House roof ever offered for sale alone by itself !!
