The name THUNDERBIRD comes from the belief that the beating ofitsenormous wings causes thunder.
It is considered a \"Supernatural\" bird of power and strength that hasa wingspan of two canoe-lengths from wingtip to wingtip. Accordingto lore, the clouds are pulled togetherby its wingbeats, the soundofthunder made by its wings clapping, sheet lightning thelight flashingfrom its eyes when it blinks and individual lightning bolts made by theglowing snakes that it carries around with it. In masks it is depictedas many-colored,with two curling horns, and often,teeth within its beak.
Some of the finest renditions of the THUNDERBIRD is foundinNative American totem images on the totem poles of theNorthwestCoast Peoples and is found in various forms among the peoples of theAmerican Southwest and Great Plains.

In this bracelet and ring the THUNDERBIRDS are perfectly matchedwith penn shell and gold lip mother of pearl wings. Tail feathers areof jet and their heads are of turquoise, white mother of pearl,coralandjet. On the bracelet, the teardrop and dot accents are of white and goldlipmother of pearl, turquoise and coral.The bracelet is 6 1/2\" insidediameter with a 1 1/16\" opening.The ring is a size 7.
This set was crafted in the mid-70\'s, practically never worn and looksas brand new today as it did then.
