Thisvery rare Philip Skene Foundry 12 pounder cannonball was found on the wreck ofthe American galley Congress that was General Benedict Arnold’s Flagship at theBattle of Valcour Island, fought in October, 1776.

Itwas found on the wreck of the Congress at Ferris Bay,(now called Arnold’s Bay) where theremaining American ships were burned to prevent their capture by the British onOctober 12, 1776.

Thisshot is 4 9/16 “ diameter, is in good condition with light to light/mediumpitting & has a dark brown patina..

Itis in good condition with the head having light to light/medium pitting & abrown patina

It was bought in Ticonderoga, New York in 1937 by James Dunn from a local historian who owned a smallprivate museum & whose family had lived on the lake since before theRevolutionary War & had been collecting artifacts from this area for manyyears.

It comes with a family letterfrom Dunn’s grand daughter who was there when this tomahawk was purchased &who inherited his very large collection of over 1500 + artifacts from thisarea.
