This is a leaf of incunabulafrom the second edition of The Opera of Priscianus Caesariensiscommonly known as Priscian, who was a 6th Century Latin grammarianat Constantinople. This version of the Opera was edited by BenedictusBrognolus and contains commentary by J.Aingre. It was printedon June 20, 1492 in Venice by Philippus Pincius. The leaf measures290 x 195 mm. in totality and contains various lines of Romantype (3:107R, 4:77R) flanked on three sides by 60-lines of commentary,printed single column in Latin. Priscian, a Latin grammarian and the author of the Institutes of Grammar which was the standard textbook for the study of Latin during the Middle Ages. It also provided the raw material for the field of speculative grammar. Priscian was born and raised in the North-African city of Caesarea now known as Algeria and taught fir a while in Constantinople. The versocontains the same layout & type. (GW 35396, Goff P-969, Proctor5293, BMC V 493) This leaf contains minor staining around theedges. The two (2) additional leaves in this lot are text only and contain no embellishments.
