From a Tucson estate some years ago and an iconic remembrance of DG sisterhood during early 20th Century times is this I believe 14K solid gold Delta Gamma Sorority initiate\'s anchor pin badge, a really attractive one with the old Burr Patterson maker mark. The jeweler hand crafting here is heads above any version of more current make - this particular symbolic ornament exhibits great visual charisma and a distinctly vintage appearance. There is \"K. / A. KILPATRICK / 1915\" engraved to the back, making this a highly vintage Kappa Chapter (University of Nebraska) example. I at first thought it was \"195\" - a chapter initiation number, but it actually reads as the year \"1915\"(the \"1\" is engraved under the gold twisted wire rope). Augusta R. Kilpatrick, Freshman Class of \'15 from Beatrice pledged April 10; her photo appears in the June 1, 1915 edition of the Anchora. There is no marking for gold fineness as typical with these older jeweler versions and I will not mar its beauty with a gold test. That said it is absolutely solid gold...and for those who know, Burr Paterson typically employed 14K in these hand made Titanic Era badges…and the color supports this. Weight is good for the form at about 2.7 grams on my portable digital scale. Just so you know, this was together in the same estate as the 10K solid gold 1910 \"BHS\" Beatrice High School pin, the 14K gold NFPBWC suffrage related pin, the 14K gold American Legion Auxiliary 8/40 pin, and the WW2 American Red Cross Volunteer and Service pins (several issues of the Beatrice Daily Sun contain articles relating to Augusta\'s work with the ARC), all of which I have listed separately. Condition is quite fine with a nice aura of time to the gold surfaces, still nice. The enamel has just the typical and expected (unobtrusive) bit of surface wear from period wearing about; there are no chips or cracks or any hidden restorations. The original pin and locking clasp are good to go. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about in. high and in. across. If you prefer the elevated quality of a Pre WW1 badge for collection or wearing about, or simply wish this single meaningful link to another DG in the long ago, this will have great meaning for you.
