Stunning piece! This is a rare Italian printed Catholic Devotional of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Features 51 highly illustrated leaves featuring numerous beautiful and intricate illuminated miniature engravings, the first few with some mild hand coloring. Page borders contain fantastic engraved images with varying themes from monstrous depictions, fertility figures, floral and architectural images, as well as a striking fully engraved title page, and the colophon with the publishers device as well. Incomplete, as noted; missing several gatherings of leaves. Some minimal staining, wear/ rounding at some edges, with a few scattered small holes, nothing major at all. Binding retained with gilt rule to spine, plain marbled leather with disbound text in gatherings. Front board with bookplate as shown affixed to front pastedown.Almost no wear to covers; page edges red stained. Measures 6\" x 4.5\".
Present of the original piece are (calls for 252, [4] leaves): 18, 65-71, 209-224, 233-252, 1-2.
Overall an extremely rare find in market, especially with the full page miniatures, making this an absolute steal. Good luck!
