The first Italian edition of the adaptation of Josephus by Pseudo-Hegesippus (the name traditionally given to the anonymous author once confused with the Christian author Hegesippus). The classic work of Josephus, at times, in the past, erroneously ascribed to Hegesippus, ecclesiastical writer of the second century, now attributed to Peitro Lauro. Eusebius of Caesarea had already stirred up the confusion between Josephus and Hegesippus, and because he had made use of both these sources in Greek, causing much debate. The Benedictines also possibly attribute this to St Ambrose, but therein lies no foundations. Octavo (8vo). Bound in a fascinating early manuscript leaf, with manuscript \\written on both sides , folded and preserved well within. There are also additional binder\'s waste manuscript fragments used along the spine, as shown. Research indicates that the covers may very well be Carolingian in nature, possibly dating as far back as the 1000-1100s, with the fragments dating from the late 1200s-late 1300s, making the covers, in fact, much more valuable than the book itself.
