An extremely scarce Biblical concordance from the seventeenth century.

Similar to a Biblical dictionary, this contains alphabetically arranged passages from the Bible, intended for easy reference.

Verbal concordances of the Bible are the invention of the friars of the Dominican order. The text which served as basis of their work was that of the Latin Vulgate, the Bible of the Middle Ages. The first concordance, completed in 1230, was undertaken under the guidance of Hugo de Saint-Cher (Hugo de Sancto Charo), assisted by fellow Dominicans.

CONDITION

In a contemporary calf binding. Externally, worn, with paper adhered to the boards, marks, bumping, evidence of past worming, and some loss. Internally, binding tender. Paper to frontpastedown is missing, with rear pastedown lifting. Hinges are tender. Endpapers are missingNumerous ink annotations throughout. Pages have some tidemarks, some foxing and staining, and some evidence of past worming. Some cockling to the paper also, as well as some chipping and edgewear. Some paper repairs to the margins. Overall: FAIR.
