Private library plate to the front pastedown, from the Evangelical Union Theological Hall. The Evangelical Union was a religious denomination which originated in the suspension of the Rev. James Morison, minister of a United Secession congregation in Kilmarnock, Scotland, for certain views regarding faith, the work of the Holy Spirit in salvation, and the extent of the atonement, which were regarded by the supreme court of his church as anti-Calvinistic and heretical. It professed a creed which allowed them greater freedom as preachers of the Gospel.

CONDITION

In a mottled calf binding with gilt design tot he spine. Externally, rather worn with marks, andshelfwear to the spine. Front board is held by the cords only and rear joint is starting. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages, given the age of the book, generally clean aside from the odd spot and handling mark. Private library bookplate to the front pastedown. Copperplate ink signature to front free endpaper, and title page. Overall: GOOD.
