I have for sale a late 18th to early 19th century French Infantry Officers small sword. This was a heirloom fine from an antique dealer going out of business in Georgia. No makers mark on the blade, but the blade is engraved on both sides and has a canon/floral motifs as pictured on both sides of the blade. Blade is gilted and blued and is solidly connected at hilt. Makers mark may exist at hilt end of blade- something the buyer may check at his own wish. Hilt is brass with a nice petina around the counterguard from what would be repeated removal from the scabbard. The scabbard was not with the sword- but replacements can be found for the period. Once again- this sale is for the sword only- no scabbard comes with the sword. The pommel is egg shaped with a leaf pattern and is also firmly attached. The d shaped guard is firmly attached as is the handle. Center of blade is flush against the hilt-with a mm gap existing around the edge of the curvature of the counterguard. The blade shows a nice petina and is as straight as can be expected for a 200 year old plus weapon. I have came across an 1840 Union Officer sword I wish to purchase, so this item is being listed out of my collection. I would venture to say that this is either a Revolutionary or French/Indian War sword passed down through the dealers family- as I purchased it in the North Georgia Mountains which is lacking in collectors of 18th century European weaponry. Item will be shipped upon payment and well wrapped and packaged. Blade dimensions are as follows: 32.1 inches of exposed blade. Blade is 1 inch wide. Hilt is 6.5 inches long. I have more pictures of the blade where the gold inlay can be seen more clearly as well as the engravings. Just shoot me a message and I will send them your way. Thanks for looking.
