Colson [Coulson], Nathaniel. London: Printed for J. Mount and T. Page, on Tower-Hill, 1770. Scarce early astronomical/ mathematical/ navigational treatise. The first edition of this work appears to have been published in 1676, and there were at least another 38 editions published in the 18th century. Includes math, geometry, navigation, astronomy, the compass, tide & moon tables, sailing directions and much more. Bound in its original binding of pleasantly weathered leather, some light loss to rear cover, the hinges intact but stressed with light loss at the foot. Illustrated with navigational charts, astronomical woodcuts, mathematical/ geometric diagrams, compasses, and more, as shown. Minor browning with some creasing here and there, a few chips but overall interior decent with all content present. Pages shaken in places. Signed on EPs, pastedowns & title by Josh Sisson, dated 1773, with point of reference written on the rear pastedown of Nantucket Sheales[Shoals]. The Sisson family has been involved in prominent New England maritime trade since the mid 1600s, surely this man was a mariner as well. Measures 8\" x 6\". An interesting example of an early maritime treatise. Good luck!
