1776Colony of New York 1/3 of a Dollar (2 shillings and 8 Pence) Mote, March 5thissue. Very Fine or so, center crease asoften seen on this early paper, but the black printing all sharp andreadable. Signed by Robert Smith and oneother, the second signature now faded but possibly Cornelius Ray (there were alot of signers for these issues, all of which are listed in the Newman book!). This issue of course bears the magic 1776date, but also has the curious denomination that is rendered both in dollarsand in British currency – and the note specifically fixes the ratio between thetwo systems on the note itself. Thereare numerous odd denominations to be found within the colonial and Continentalcurrency and many collectors specialize in just these issues – which wouldcertainly make an impressive collection. Decent circulated condition; we are notexperts in paper money grading (though we do deal extensively in colonialcoinage), and the condition is as shown in the photos.
