1780 STATE OF VIRGINIA $500 AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY CURRENCY - HIGH DENOMINATION:
$419.99

HERE is a genuine and very high grade STATE OF VIRGINIA CURRENCY NOTE FOR 500 DOLLARS (150 Pounds) dated OCTOBER 16, 1780.

No vignettes but printed on very thin tissue-like, paper. Back is blank as issued with the exception of the words FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS and ONE HUNDRED & FIFTY POUNDS at right and left margins.

This issue was redeemable at the rate of $1 in silver coin for every $40 worth of paper currency, until December 30, 1790.

The wording on the front of the note is as follows:

\"THIS QILL (sic) of FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS shall be exchanged and redeemed in SPANISH MILLED DOLLARS, or the value in Gold or Silver, at the Rate of One for Forty at the TREASURY of VIRGINIA, on or before the30thDay of December,One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety, according to an Act of Assembly passed the 16thDay of October, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty.\"

Serial #3076. THREE HAND SIGNATURES of Virginia colonial officials: J.M. Simmons, John Lyne and J. Hopkins.

A tough issue to find in nice grade as the paper is so thin that it tended to disintegrate. This is a nice crisp and bright virtually newnote with hardlyany circulation at all. A premium example of this scarce issue.
