First published in England in 1784, Cooks 3rd Voyage was quickly re-published in Paris in 1785. Many consider the engraving quality to surpass the English edition.
Cook visited Tonga in July 1777 on his 3rd Voyage. His log describes this scene in detail,allowing the engraving to capture an accurate scene. Cook wrote he wasn\'t sure of what the intent or object of the wresting match and the ceremony that went along with it were meant to imply as... when he asked...he was that was \"tabu\" to him\'
