The letter reads
\"To John Lawrence esq. , Dear Sir, Please to pay Hez. Bissell Esq. State Attorney out of any money raised for the suport of civil government the sum of four shillings eight pence. My being part of a --- Court held at Windham on the last day of May 1787 against Joseph Whitmore Jr. for horse stealing. Dated to - 7th June 1787 By order of the court. Geo. Perkin? Clerk\"
