Original 17th century Italian Baroque walnut 'prie dieu', a piece of furniture used for kneeling in prayer. The lift top below would hold a pillow. The prie dieu was often placed in front of an icon or crucifix. This one is larger scale then most with four Solomonic columns and original brass hardware of dolphins facing each other.
