YOU GET T H R E E used, as is, wonderful cloth DOLLS!anything else you see is either listed separately or my personal property, AND NOT INCLUDED IN THIS sale. you get the doll with pinkish colored hat and the doll with lace trim and a yellow felt flower with greenish flower stems on it.this is an amazing, estate fresh, cloth doll lot!
rare pencil faced rag doll. antique, circa mid to late 1870\'s. she is beautiful! at approx 17\" tall, her body is stuffed firm, cloth?rag?hair? can\'t tell so i am not sure of stuffing material. her thumbs are separate with stitched fingers, and her feet are beautifully formed. she has a wonderful tiny waste and a really nice wide hip body! from the back, it appears that the head and body may be one piece, again, not sure. it appears that some sort of cloth material was applied to the head on front side, stitched over on the back, and a wide eyed, slightly smiling girl\'s face was admired and enjoyed on the front. there is even a tiny bit of curls surrounding the face...it is faint, but shows up in the photos.
i love her upper arms, they feel like ripples on a quilt. i want to add that upon close study of the back of the head, the layer over the face appears to be untampered with. it is stitched sloppy or primitive or child-like, but it looks like it was always that way, and the front of the face is smooth and firm, not sagging...i think the bonnet was originally attached on there, and did it\'s job! protected the head. (just my opinion)i did not try to fool with LOOKING UNDER the face. i do not know if THE COVER is a \'\'second face\'\' or was made this way, BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE FRONT NECK LINE, UNDER CHIN, WHERE HEAD (NECK) AND BODY MEET, I THINK YOU WILL AGREE THAT IT IS AN ORIGINAL MATERIAL ON THE FRONT OF THE FACE, AND IT LOOKS, TO ME, LIKE THIS DOLL WAS ORIGINALLY MADE THIS WAY. and she has NO sour smells!
STUDY MY PHOTOS AND ASK ME ANYTHING IF YOU NEED MROE INFO OR PHOTOS.
when i found the doll at the estate, she was nude and without the bonnet. next to her, i saw she was almost holding hands (as if they were protecting each other) with another cloth doll.
the 2nd doll, approx 17\" to 18\" tall, was also nude, and is a later doll, from 1900 and marked on foot. she has wonderful printed hair with a bow, and her feet are also nicely formed. her printed legs show scalloped socks and boots with shoelaces tied into bows. a nice, nice doll! it is light weight and i do not know what is inside. cloth? cotton? her face is faded, but in the right light, you can see she is also beautiful, though she does not have a hand drawn face or hair. stitches, rips, tears, wear, and NO sour smells!
when found, UNDERNEATH the dolls, was a badly torn and shredded old box. inside the box were clothes/items. exactly 5 pieces! the pinkish bonnet appears to PERHAPS have been sewn on the doll\'s head. it is wonderful, with NO perfection at all, and has lots of play wear and tear, it appears hand made, perhaps even by a young child? it seems to fit her head perfectly.
the other hat is large and quite dirty and has damage...as it needs a few stitches and someone who can clean it. the lace on this hat is really dirty but quite lovely. it is a bit big for doll, but it \'\'seemed\'\' to go on the bigger doll\'s head.
the clothing is so, so beautiful!! WHILE I CANNOT PROVE THAT THEY ARE ORIGINAL TO EACH DOLL, SOMEONE TOOK A LOT OF PRIDE AND CARE TO MAKE SURE that they were well cared for, and clothing does match each doll. they fit the dolls perfectly...button closure OPEN FRONT AND BACK bloomers and an amazing under slip for one doll...and a beautiful dress for the other. it looks like a very long time ago, someone cared for the white clothing items and hats, and then put them away for safe keeping. i am sure the clothing stayed cleaner than the dolls (except for the large felt hat.) because of them being in that torn up, worn out box. thin paper box had no name or markings and was too fragile to save. it just shred when touched.these wonderful dolls appear to have spent a very long time together, and i could not separate them so, you get both along with the 3 pieces of white clothing, and two hats. theseare used and played with and NOT PERFECT. There are the really nice and wonderful, but as in most cloth and rag dolls from 100 or more years ago, you should always expect rips, folds, stains, scratches and EXPECTED wear and tear, which is wonderful and so perfect for these 2 authentic antique dolls.
NOW FOR THE BONUS DOLL, I was going to sell it by itself, but decided to added it to this doll lot for the new owner:THIS IS A true heartwarming doll and story. can you possible hold more love in your arms from one doll...i think not!!this old shoe button rag doll has been loved and cherrished more than any other doll i ever collected.the now elderly mother of the original child, told me how she went to great lengths to make her little child feel normal and this doll feel special. these old plastic glasses (with ear ends purposely removed) are the mother\'s creative way of allowing her 3 year old to feel happy as the child had eye disease at such a young age and worn thick lense glasses.
this doll has mommy sewn on glasses, and even with all the love and bruising and tears and repairs and stains and fading and mishaps, and baldness...it is still the MOST WONDERFUL DOLL EVER!!!every mark on this doll tells the story of love, care, and that being different is ok and certainly special!!!this has a seam down the back...and comes with this amazing very old mommy made dress!!!this doll is the one special old rag doll you have been waiting for, as it is NO ORDINARY RAGGEDY ANN OR ANDY DOLL!!!based on the shape of the hands and what is left of the faded features, and the fact that i was told the child was born in 1947, i am estimating this to be a 1946 Raggedy Ann Doll, Johnny Gruelle\'s by Georgene Novelties. there is no tag leftand this is just MY guess.
