This is a wonderful, original letter dated 1807, Sutton, Massachusetts, where Major Sumner Bastow (Barstow) has written to Colonel John Davis of Holden, Massachusetts regarding the orders from upper command that he get together a regiment that will be ready to march at a moments notice if required by the President of the United States. The regiment will consist of the correct number of enlisted men and officers as directed by General Caleb Burbank. Letter is 8x14, folds, addressed outer leaf, overall fine shape.
