French editionof an important manifesto followed by legal documents in support of D. Maria II(1819-1853) legal right to the Portuguese crown.

After the independence of Brazil in 1822, D. Pedro IVand First Emperor of Brazil, abdicated hisright to the Portuguese crown in favor of his older daughter D. Maria living atthe time in Brazil. When returning toPortugal, D. Maria realized that her uncle, D. Miguel had seized thecrown. She sailed to England to getsupport to her cause using this work as legal ground to prove her right to thePortuguese crown.

The work wascompiled by José Antonio Guerreiro, Portuguese politician and Prime Ministerfrom 1828 to 1829, and by Pedro de Sousa Holstein, 1st the Duke ofPalmela (1781-1850).
