1835 US Stampless folded letter with red Peters. Jan 8 VA (Petersburg - January - Virginia with high \"A\") circular dated postmark at upper left --- 18 ?? in script at upper right --- addressed to Messrs Abraham Bell & Co, New York --- Charles F. Osborn, January 8 1835 12 in script on back flap --- seal is present with hole cut on corresponding back flap

Biographical note: Charles F. Osborne of Petersburg, Virginia, was the president of the Petersburg Rail-Road Company at the time this letter was written. See: 201835&f=false

Letter is dated Petersburg, Virginia, 8th January 1835 and begins, Messrs Abraham Bell & Co, Dear Sir --- the writer, in hard-to-distinguish handwriting, says, \"In reference to the [...] prices of cotton in Europe indeed in every aspect, I think we should be cautious\" --- he continues, \"We are doing very little here - in consequence of competition [...] cotton is to day [inexpensive], [as] it has been the whole year\" even that of \"extraordinary quality\"

He considers, \"I think we have fully estimated my crop at 1,200,000 [or even] it [might] reach 1,300,000\" --- signed, Truly Yours, Charles F. Osborne --- there is a faint ink shadow on the page, presumably from the writer closing the letter before the ink had completely dried --- small slits and holes at folded edges and corners --- creases from folding; DARK STRIP ACROSS BOTTOM OR SIDES IS THE PLASTIC HOLDER IN THE SCAN
