This Bible was originally Owned by Captain Simeon Haley (1781-1859), American Patriot , born in Mystic , Connecticut during the American Revolutionary War , and active during the War Of 1812 .

Originally owned by Simeon & Priscilla Haley , with their Family Records .
They were married on April 16, 1837 - the same year as the publication date of this Bible.Interestingly & sadly, the Family Register Pages show that Captain Simeon Haley was \" killed on the Rail Road , May 9th, 1859 \"His son, Simeon Jr., had been \" lost on the cost ( coast ) of Florida , Sept. 4, 1842 \".( see further details below )

Some wear to the binding.
The bookseller has effected some repairs to the binding, including removal of the tape which a former owner applied to the spine, and closure of some splitting in the leather at the juncture of the boards & spine, with a little Bookbinder\'s Glue.
Bookbinder\'s cloth repair material has been inserted under the leather, to strengthen the attachment of the covers.
The spine is a little rough at the edges, however all is square, secure & firm, and the hinges flex normally.
The Covers are Well Attached.
There is some general rubbing to the leather.
Binding recently treated with Bookbinder\'s Leather Preservative-Restorer to replenish essential oils and help preserve the old leather.

There are some pencil scripture notes on the front endpaper.
The Family Records Pages contain old ink records of the Original Owners Simion & Priscilla Haley ( see Details below ) .
No other writing.
No markings.
Some pages are foxed, yet many remain quite clean, and the paper itself remians quite white.
A few pages show some old dampstaining at the margin ( this is quite minor ).
The Pages are otherwise in Very Good Condition.

( Acts 12:4 ; Copperplate Engraving ) The Family Register ( 4 pages ), includes the Marriages of Simeon Haley to his first and second wife, family births, family deaths.\" Simeon Haley and Sarah Packer were married March 15th, 1803 .\"Husband \" Simeon Haley was born November 24, 1781 \"Wife \" Sarah Packer was born January 17, 1785 \"The had 3 children ; Catherine, Lucy, and Simeon Jr., born from 1805 to 1812.Their marriage came to an end when Sarah died on November 25, 1834, aged 49 years.Simeon remarried on April 16, 1837, to Priscilla A. Burrows .Priscilla, who had been born on November 12, 1809, was 27 years of age at the time of their marriage.
Simeon was 55.
Their son \" Nathan Haley was born on January 27, 1840 \"Simeon & Sarah\'s son, Simeon Jr., \" was lost on the cost ( coast ) of Florida , Sept. 4, 1842 \".
He was 30 years of age at the time of his death.Simeon & Sarah\'s children all died relatively young.
Catherine ( Starks ) died on February 15, 1846, aged 41 years.
Lucy ( Ash ) died March 9th, 1849, also aged 41 years.Simeon Sr. was \" killed on the Rail Road , May 9th, 1859 \"
He was 78 years of age.Nathan died quite young, aged just 25 years, on October 21, 1865.Simeon\'s wife Priscilla lived on - eventually dying on May, 5th 1895 , at 85 years of age.The \"Births\" pages also record 10 other members of the Haley family , with birth dates ranging from 1759 to 1778 ; presumably these were siblings of Simion ; Katherine , Mary , Thomas , Rhoda , Nathan ( born 1766 ), Charlotte , Jeremiah , George , Hannah , and Nancy - all with the surname \" Haley .\"Consider this; Hannah was born on April 24, 1776 , less than 3 months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence , and Nancy was born on May 10, 1778 - in the midst of the American Revolutionary War .Captain Simeon Haley himself, who owned this Bible , was born on Nov. 24, 1781 - about a month after Cornwallis surrendered his army to General George Washington at Yorktown .
The United States of America was a brand new country when Simion was brought forth into the world, and as he grew up, the young United States grew up with him.
Captain Haley faced America\'s challenges head on.

Om March 15, 1803 Simeon Haley married Sarah, daughter of Daniel and wife Mary (Avery) Packer - who were among the early settlers of Groton , Connecticut. She was cousin of Judge Asa Packer, the eminent and distinguished millionaire of Mauch Chuck, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Sarah Haley died on Nov. 25, 1834, and on April 16, 1837, Captain Simeon Haley married Miss Priscilla Avery Burrows, Burrows family, daughter of John and wife Betsey (Haley) Burrows.- from \"THE HISTORY OF STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT\" by Richard A. Wheeler Among the most active patriots in the \' cursed little hornet’s nest \' of Mystic was Captain Simeon Haley (1781-1859).
Haley went to sea at 17 and was captain by 23.
In 1813, he was part of the crew from Mystic that saved the sloop Victory from capture, and he acted as prize master of the privateer Hero , taking command of the Fox after her capture by the Hero.
During the Battle of Stonington , Haley served in the battery - frequently being the one to fire the cannon.
Haley also commanded the private armed boat True blooded Yankee , as well as the boat that lured a British barge to capture at Groton Long Point.
