1840\'S CHANGEABLE SILK BROCADE TWO PIECE DRESS:

This is a two piece changeable silk brocade gown, the shades changing from light to dark as they are viewed at different angles.
The bodice has a boat neckline with a V shape, coming to a point in front. The sleeves have double bands, it fastens in back with hooks and eyes, it\'s lined in brown Tobacco cotton, with 3 bones in front. There are pads under the underarms, coming around partially to the bust area.
The skirt has a white twill tape waistband, is cartridge pleated all the way around except for a narrow area in front which has reverse pleating. It\'s unlined except for the hem, andfastens with a snap, which was added later. The bottom edge has a rope twist edging.
The bodice measures 30\" around at the bust, 23\" at the waist. The skirt measures 23\" at the waist, is 40 5/8\" long. These are outside measurements.
The hooks and eyes have been replaced by steel hooks. I will provide a card of Victorian hooks and eyes if you want to restore them. The armsceyes both need restitching, for about a third of the way around. It doesn\'t look as if anything is missing or torn here, they were restitched with white thread, hiding some of the piping, but the newer stitching is easily removed.
The skirt might have 2-3 pinholes. The snap should also be replaced with an older fastener. There is some restitching at the edge of the waistband, near the snap, it looks as if the cartridge pleating is all original, however. 1840-45.
