1844 Henry Clay Whig Party Cigar Case:

This is afantastic item from the Henry Clay Whig campaign of 1844. It is a cigar (cheroot)case that would expand to hold a few cigars. It has great graphics and text. It measures about 2 7/8 by 5 ½ inches. I amnot sure what the outer surface is made of; probably thin wood, but perhaps reinforcedleather, or cardboard.

Theaccordion-like sides of this case are leather which is still surprisingly flexible.These sides expand the case to about 7/8 inches deep. The leather is in verygood condition, with only a small split at the top, where the leather meets theside panel. .

Rare to thisitem, it still has the inner sleeve/compartment that slides out. This removable inner sleeve is expandable in thesame fashion as the outer case. Theleather on this inner case is still flexible as well, but the leather hasseparated at the top.
