CONDITION: Overall, VG.
The front inner hinge has split but it is still attached. It could easily be repaired.
There is a second weakness in the binding in the last text block that could also be reinforced.The gorgeous dark green, blind-stamped, cover is remarkably well-preserved.
The Gold-Gilt Cover Artwork & Design is in near-Fine condition, unblemished, intact, still bright, and looks stunning !-- Please see the scan of the Front Cover --The Gold-Gilt Lettering & Designs on the Spine is also Fresh and Beautiful, intact and still quite bright.
Amazingly, there are just two short quarter-inch tears at the base of the spine. ( Please See Scan )
SUMMARY:Between 1848 and 1853, British artist and travel writerThomas Witlam Atkinson,
with his wife Lucy,traveled over 40,000 milesby horseback across Russia, Siberia,
Mongolia, and parts of China, painting, sketching, and documenting their travels.
From Moscow they traveled east, across numerous rivers and the Ural Mountains, into Siberia.
They then headed further east, then south, eventually reaching Gora Belukha, which isthe
Altai Mountain\'s -- andSiberia\'s --tallest peak, and Lake Baikal, earth\'s largest fresh-water lake.
Further journeys took them into Mongolia, and finally, China.
